Sending the letter is one step.
Keep your submission, evidence copies, delivery record, and any reference number together. Read follow-up requests promptly and respond through the recipient’s current official channel. A template isn't a substitute for evidence.
Read the result, not just the alert.
If information was corrected or removed, compare the updated report with the result and keep both. If the information was verified, review the explanation and identify whether relevant evidence was overlooked or missing. Do not automatically repeat the same unsupported claim.
Keep timeframes in context.
Investigations generally take 30 days, with 45 days possible in applicable circumstances. Receipt dates and circumstances matter. The organizer below records a review date you choose; it doesn't calculate a legal deadline, send reminders, or monitor a bureau.
If the problem remains.
Consider relevant new information and official escalation options. Follow the CFPB’s current complaint intake requirements, including disputing with the reporting agency first when required. Get qualified legal advice if an unresolved error causes significant harm or a legal deadline is involved. A consumer statement doesn't erase a debt or guarantee a score change.
